To show your support for our veterans, we encourage you to replace your porch light with a green light this weekend. According to the Greenlight A Vet project, green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being, and the simple action of changing one light to green can help remind veterans how much they are valued in our community.
If you’d like to show your support on social media, take a picture of your green light and share it using the hashtag #greenlightavet. You can also change your profile picture on various social media channels to a green hue using the filter available on the Greenlight a Vet website.
Can’t find a green light bulb?
Since the Greenlight A Vet project has grown in popularity just since last year, some stores may be in short supply of green bulbs. If you can’t find one, head to theatrical supply store and buy a package of colored gels. Gels are thin sheets of polycarbonate that can be cut to fit over the lamps and under the lens in your existing light fixtures. Gels are totally safe to come in direct contact with LED lamps, so just insert them into your landscape lighting fixtures and show your support!
What are other ways I can support our veterans?
The most important way to support our vets is with donations. In America, there are thousands of veterans who are unable to work due to disabilities endured while protecting our country. You can give monetary donations to Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled Veterans of America, or donate household goods, clothing and more to Amvets of Florida.
We hope you enjoy your long weekend, all the while remembering to thank each veteran you encounter for their dedication to our freedom.
